They came from all corners of the globe to check out the plane that will bring the world closer together.

On the opening day of the 2010 Farnborough International Air Show, representatives from airlines big and small visited the 787 Dreamliner, which is here on static display.

Dorota Michalska, Fleet Management manager for LOT Polish Airlines, had toured a Dreamliner before but she had never seen one outfitted with an interior until this week.

ZA003, the third Dreamliner, is the only one of the 787 test fleet to have stowage bins, windows and seats that resemble a commercial jetliner. ZA003 touched down at the Farnborough International Air Show on Sunday and will remain open for special tours before departing late Tuesday afternoon.

“It has a very nice interior, big space and very nice window," Michalska said. "I believe that from a customer perspective, it’s a great aircraft."

LOT Polish Airlines and fifty five carriers have placed more than 860 orders for the Dreamliner. Not only are the airlines from far-flung regions, they also serve different markets and operate under different business models. But, they're all drawn to the 787 for its ability to connect distant cities with improved fuel-efficiency, while providing passengers a  more comfortable experience.

“It really pushes the envelope of where we can fly to," said Chris Browne, managing director of Thomson Airways. "We’re really looking at taking this aircraft to lots of regional departures and looking at new exciting destinations."
